The solution is spiritual . . . Always.
I heard an interesting talk tonight. The speaker outlined how the steps, one by one, had a spiritual hook that pulled us in the right, and sober direction. He reminded us of the line in the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous that says, and I paraphrase, “there will come a time when you are face to face with a drink (or a drug), and only God and your spiritual fitness can save you.” Even though I have not been faced with that in my nearly 35 years of sobriety, I don’t doubt that it silently waits for each of us. Unfortunately, I know more than a few who have succumbed. Some have made it back. Many have not.
My commitment to this way of life, a life that includes multiple meetings a week, daily contact with other people in recovery, and prayer coupled with meditation; blesses me every day. Because of my journey I am at peace now, a state of mind I could never have imagined attaining during the first three decades of my life. And the peace I experience adds to the peace of others I believe. Here is how it works, I think:
Whoever is drawn into one’s “circle” throughout the day is influenced by the connection that is made and that connection, in turn, eventually touches all the other folks on the planet. I realize this seems like a stretch, and I thought so too when I first heard it discussed at a convention that was focused on the influence of the spiritual world on the scientific mind. But I was fascinated and the theory eventually made sense.
This information triggered recall too. I remembered learning about Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle when I was in graduate school many years earlier and it postulated that the presence of the observer, in an experiment, affected the outcome of that same experiment. The two were not inviolate. Subjectivity is the norm. In science, in all aspects of life, in relationships too, of course. And finally, we are all in relationship with one another. Regardless of how near or far apart we are, we are connected.
And to bring this back to tonight’s talk, I think the speaker would say that since we are connected, our attachment to a spiritual way of life is even more important. What happens for one, happens for all. It makes it pretty important that each one of us is doing our part. Wouldn’t you agree?
What can you begin doing today that will send a message around the world that God would praise you for?

Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic nevertheless I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in exchanging links or
maybe guest authoring a blog post or vice-versa? My website goes over a lot of the same subjects
as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you happen to be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Wonderful blog by the way!

Hello Karen,
I am new to your website, but not to your books. Last summer I was going through a very difficult time with my husband and your book, “Change Your Mind and Your Life Will Follow” helped me tremendously as well as “It’s Up to You” which often helps get me back on track when I’m feeling fearful or resentful. I have been in Alanon and RCA for many years and I want you to know that your books have helped my recovery and spiritual growth (which is really what it’s all about).
I just started a blog for my parenting workshops that I have been teaching for many years. I love what I do and hope to expand to more parents in need of support and guidance. I noticed your list of workshops, but nothing in Los Angeles or California. I live in Los Angeles. Any chance you might be doing a workshop here someday?
Or maybe I could organize something. How many people do you require and how much do you charge?
I look forward to hearing from you.
With gratitude,
Linda
